MARTINSBURG, W.Va. ? Three people were flown to area medical centers Thursday after the vehicle in which they were riding crashed into a telephone pole off Grade Road in northern Berkeley County, police and emergency officials said.

The names or ages of the victims were not available Thursday night, according to Sheriff W. Randy Smith, who said he was told they had "major" injuries.

Emergency responders found the people trapped in the vehicle in the 3200 block of Grade Road after being dispatched at 12:17 p.m., according to Smith and Bedington Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Andrew DeHaven.

Smith and DeHaven said the victims were flown to different hospitals by two helicopters, which landed at a trucking business off U.S. 11. Grade Road connects to U.S. 11 between the communities of Falling Waters and Marlowe, W.Va.
