Debate set on home rule government for Washington County

January 08, 2008|By

Citizens for the Protection of Washington County will hold a public forum Thursday that will include a debate on the merits of charter home rule versus the county's present County Commissioner form of government.

The forum will be at 7 p.m. at Halfway Fire Hall.

Jeanne Singer and Tom Berry will make presentations, speaking for and against the proposed form of government. They will debate the issue, with Singer speaking for charter home rule and Berry speaking in opposition.

Both served on the Charter Board of Washington County, of which Singer was chairwoman.

The audience may ask questions of both speakers during the debate.

Voters will have a chance to vote on the Charter Home Rule referendum in the Feb. 12 primary election.
