Roxbury Correctional Institution south of Hagerstown was taken off lockdown at 7 a.m. Monday, a Division of Correction spokeswoman said.

The institution was locked down after simultaneous fights in three housing units Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, a prison spokeswoman said.

One inmate was taken to Washington County Hospital for stitches that day, but he has returned to RCI, spokeswoman Danielle Wilmsen said.

No staff members were injured during the fights.

When a prison is locked down, nonessential services like programs and recreation are restricted to reduce large inmate movements, and inmates are fed in their cells but may still receive medical attention, a Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services spokeswoman has said.
