Unions collect Toys for Tots

Unions in Washington and Frederick counties combined their efforts in support of the Toys for Tots program.

Carpenters 340, United Auto Workers 171 and the Central Maryland AFL-CIO Council conducted a drive to collect toys for the Marine Corps League, Bulldog Detachment.

The annual Christmas Party held by the labor council required an admission of a new toy for a child up to 12 years of age. About 145 gifts were received.

Gift presentation to the Marine Corps League was made by President Teresa Martin and Carpenters 340 business representative Ron Maners to Marine Corps League Chaplain Phil Stotelmyer.

Carpenters 340 made its facilities available to serve as a collection point.

Carpenters 340 members assisting in the collection were President Lucien Casey and Adolph Jones. Participants from the Central Maryland AFL-CIO Council were Art Bundick, Hampton Wedlock, Bobby Hebb, Don Forcino, Charlie Shindle, Larry Barron, Jon Rosenberger. UAW 171 members participating were President Dave Perkins, Secretary/Treasurer Dave Dopp and Bobby Fouche of the Transportation Communications Union.

The labor council received an award from the Toys for Tots program for the outstanding contribution it made in the 2006 drive.
