Al-Anon/Alateen Family Groups

Hagerstown and Frederick, Md., area. This is an anonymous, confidential support group for anyone affected by a family member's or friend's drinking. There are no fees. Call 301-663-6626 for a list of meetings in the area.

Healing Hearts

Healing Hearts, a program designed for adults coping with a death, will begin today. Afternoon and evening sessions are available. This is a six-week support/educational group with optional ongoing monthly support. Preregistration is required. Call the Grief and Bereavement Services Department, 301-791-6360. Anyone from the community is welcome to attend. The program is offered free to the community through Hospice of Washington County Inc.

Headway

Today, 3 to 4 p.m., Total Rehab Care, Robinwood Medical Center, 11110 Medical Campus Road, Suite 201, red entrance, east of Hagerstown. Headway is for people living with brain injury. Call 301-714-4028.

National Alliance on Mental Illness

Tuesday, Jan. 8, 7 p.m., Trinity Lutheran Church, corner of North Potomac Street and Randolph Avenue, Hagerstown. The group's mission is to educate and inform residents of Washington County about mental illness and to support and advocate for individuals with mental illness and their families and caregivers. Adoption Support Group

Tuesday, Jan. 8, 6 to 8 p.m., Haven Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown. Free and open to the public. Diakon Adoption Services holds monthly support groups for families who have adopted children, are waiting to adopt, or are interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents. Free child care and light refreshments will be available.

Help for parents of children with special needs

FREDERICK, Md. - "Parents Learning Together" will help parents and caregivers of children with special needs learn to support one another. The free monthly group will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Thomas Johnson Middle School, 1799 Schifferstadt Blvd. This month the group will talk about ADHD. The program is co-sponsored by Families Plus!, Frederick County Public Schools' Partners for Success and The Infant and Toddlers' Family Support Network. Call 301-694-9002.

Codependents Anonymous
