What Do You Think?

January 06, 2008

Editor's note: Each week, The Herald-Mail invites readers to answer poll questions on its Web site, www.herald-mail.com. Readers also may submit comments about the poll question when voting. Each Sunday, a sampling of edited reader comments will run in The Herald-Mail.

Last week's poll question was: What's the best way to choose a college football champion?

"Everyone is winner is the very reason we are in the place we are (our country) today. Nobody loses, everybody gets a trophy, I can taste the bile in my throat now. Competition is healthy. If I am not good at something, I need to know so I can move on to something I can succeed in."

"Everyone's a winner? Puhleeze! When did the world become a fluffy-bunny version of itself? Sending your kids out into the world with that 'everyone's the best because if we aren't then our feelings get hurt' (stuff) is setting them up for a BEATDOWN by the REAL WORLD! By the time they get to college, they should be big enough to take it. Bottom line: MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN!"

"The top four teams should play in a playoff system, just like the final three games of the NFL season. Maybe I'd watch then, but now I have no desire to watch the Viagra Bowl or the Republican War on Terror Bowl."

"I think we need a playoff system in college, and the heck with all these sponsored bowl games. But then, without the sponsors, the colleges couldn't get their millions to promote their football programs."

"Let them have a playoff system and heck with the sponsored bowl games. A playoff system would be more fair and a lot of fun!!"

"A playoff is preferred by most people, but a problem with it is that only one of the top teams ends the season with a win. Bowl games allow half the teams to finish with a victory ... not the best system, but it is not likely to change."
