Rebecca G. Pyles, 63


MARCH 18, 1944-DEC. 31, 2007

KNOXVILLE, Md. - Rebecca Geraldine Pyles, 63, of Knoxville, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at her home.

Born March 18, 1944, in Prince George's County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Wayne Crosby and Marie Chase Read.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Pyles.

She was a retired material planner with Spirent Communications, Rockville, Md.

She is survived by three daughters, Tammy Longerbeam of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., Tina Pyles of Halltown, W.Va., and Christina Scott of Frederick, Md.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick, Md.

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Betty Louise Gamble, 77, of Fulton County Medical Center Extended Care Unit, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Feb. 9, 1930, in McConnellsburg, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Lottie Bradnick Seville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Gamble.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Evangel Assembly of God Church, McConnellsburg.

She is survived by four sons, Mark M. Seville and Daniel Seville, both of McConnellsburg, Michael Seville of Wells Tannery, Pa., and Russell Seville of Greencastle, Pa.; four sisters, Nellie M. Seville of Knobsville, Pa., and Doris M. Seville-Keefer, Mildred M. Seville-Guyer and Shirley W. Seville, all of McConnellsburg; five brothers, Ronald E. Seville, Richard G. Seville, David A. Seville, Alvin A. Seville and Edgar M. Seville, all of McConnellsburg; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Ima J. Seville-Tritle; one half sister, Beulah Carbaugh-Rhodes; and five brothers, Carl C. Seville, Raymond E. Seville, Allen J. Seville, Kenneth H. Seville and Maynard Seville.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, McConnellsburg. Pastor William McCommons will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.




John E. Young, 73


DEC. 16, 1934-DEC. 30, 2007

John Edward "Jack" Young, 73, of 401 Kingswood Terrace, Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at his home.

Born Dec. 16, 1934, in Greensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Edward C. Young and Irma N. Webb.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeroldine M. Young, on Aug. 4, 1983.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958.

He graduated from Greensburg High School.

He retired from Mack Trucks after 30 years of service. After his retirement, he worked part time for Minnich Funeral Home.

He was a member of Haven Lutheran Church, where he was a former council member, usher and on the parish outreach committee.

He was a member of Medairy Lodge No. 140 AF&AM of Williamsport, Md., 32nd degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonry S.J., USA Cumberland, Md., Hagerstown Community College Hawk Athletic Booster Club Board of Directors and a member at large of the Booster Club Executive Committee, Hall of Fame Committee, a volunteer at HCC. He was inducted into the HCC Athletic Hall of Fame with his wife, Carole, May 30, 2007.

U.S.A. Track and Field Master Level: Track and Field official, Western Maryland Track and Field, Maryland State Track and Field, Potomac Valley Track and Field. Jack officiated high school, NCAA Division 1 National Championships, Olympic trials and youth Olympics.

He enjoyed playing golf with his golfing buddy, Al Barnhart.

He is survived by his second wife of 21 years, Carole S. Ambrose Young; one daughter, Holly S. Lechleitner and husband, Chad, of Hagerstown; one son, Shawn S. Young and wife, Becky, of Boise, Idaho; one granddaughter, Caroline May Young.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Roy W. Fetter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown. The Pastor Linda Alessandri will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, 6 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m.

RANSON, W.Va. - Laura Adelaide Dokes Harris, 79, of Ranson, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at Shenandoah Health Village Center.

Born Dec. 10, 1928, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James and Evelyn Thornton Dokes.

She was an employee of Corning Glass Works, retiring after 42 years.

She was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church and served as president of the Kitchen Committee.
