CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A man was found lying in a hallway in a house at 319 W. Washington St. early Monday with a head wound, said Charles Town Police Chief Barry Subelsky.

Police found the man after responding to the building about 12:45 a.m. for a call of an assault, Subelsky said.

The man was found in a house beside Liberty Get & Go convenience store and gas station at the intersection of West Washington and West streets, Subelsky said. The house is divided into apartments, Subelsky said.

The man was being treated Monday afternoon at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center, Subelsky said.

Police were gathering information Monday about the assault, Subelsky said.

Subelsky declined to give more details about the incident - including the victim's condition - because of an ongoing investigation.

Subelsky said he did not have the victim's name.

An open door at the front of the house leads into a hallway. No one was around the house Monday afternoon.
