Where to get in shape in the Tri-State area

As 2008, begins, there are many opportunities in the Tri-State area for folks who are interested in getting fit.

A sampling:

· CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Wilson College will offer, Zumba, a fitness program based on Latin music and dance. Classes meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 28 through March 24, in Wilson College's Laird Hall. The class is limited to 20 people. The class costs $40 per person. · CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. ? Chambersburg YMCA will offer Zumba classes from 10 to 11 a.m. beginning Saturday, Jan. 5. Zumba-certified instructor, Sandy Heckman will teach this high energy salsa fitness class for ages 12 and older. For information, call Barb Houpt at 717-263-8508.

· CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. ? Chambersburg YMCA will offer multiple yoga classes beginning Wednesday, Jan. 2. Classes for all levels are offered. Classes are free for Y members and $5 per class for nonmembers. Seven- or 14-session classes are also offered.

Yoga classes include:

Hatha for all ages from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays; Vinyasa yoga from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; sunrise yoga with salutations 6 to 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays; partner yoga from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays; and general yoga for all from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Saturdays. · CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. ? Chambersburg YMCA will offer a youth fitness program. Classes begin after school and in the evenings beginning Thursday, Jan. 3. Bus transportation is provided from several area elementary schools for the Floor Hockey and Fun, Fun and Fit program. For information, call Carla Christian or Melissa Miley at 717-263-8508.

· Body and Soul Aerobics and Strength Training to Christian contemporary music will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays beginning Monday, Jan. 7, at Bridge of Life, 6 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The session lasts for 12 weeks. New students receive a 15-percent discount offer.
