Leitersburg man lends hand

Where do you volunteer and what do you do there?: He said he helps each year with The Salvation Army distribution of toys and food. And Bruce also has been active for 18 years with the Leitersburg Ruritan Club, which sponsors Boy Scout Troop 108.

Now vice president, Bruce - a retired computer scientist - will be president of the Leitersburg Ruritan next year.

What prompted you to begin volunteering?: "It started five years ago when I helped a woman with The Salvation Army coming out of CVS with her arms full of toys," Bruce said. "I started volunteering after that."

Your biggest reward as a volunteer?: He said he enjoys seeing the expression on people's faces. "I got my first hug the other day," he said.


What impact has volunteering had on your life?: "I'm very aware of how fortunate I have been."

What keeps you busy when you're not volunteering?: "Mostly it is my activities at the Leitersburg Ruritan Club."
