December 27, 2007|By TIFFANY ARNOLD

New Year's Eve events in the Tri-State area will be a mix of standard revelry, stage performances and family fun.

Dinner packages and live performances abound in Hagerstown and West Virginia. Family friendly community celebrations will be held in parts of Pennsylvania.

Shippensburg, Pa., residents can watch the anchor drop ? getting "Ship" off to a good start in 2008 ? for the borough's yearly Drop the Anchor event, which offers children's activities, live performances and the countdown to 2008.

Organizer Todd West said Drop the Anchor drew 1,500 people last year. The event is organized by the Shippensburg Rotary Club. There also will be a street festival in Gettysburg, Pa.

Several live shows are set for New Year's Eve.

In Washington County, the Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater in Hagerstown will close out its production of "A Christmas Carol" on New Year's Eve. At least three bands are booked at Cancun Cantina West, Kahuna's Nite Club and the ballroom of the Best Western Grand Venice Hotel Wedding and Conference Center that night.
