One person taken to hospital after W.Va. 9 wreck



KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - One person was taken to the hospital Tuesday after a car flipped over on W.Va. 9, trapping the driver inside, Shepherdstown Fire Department Chief Ross Morgan said.

The accident happened about 5:30 p.m. when the car flipped onto its top on an embankment, Morgan said. Rescuers removed the driver, he said.

W.Va. 9 was closed for about an hour, he said.

No further information was available Tuesday night.




Strong-arm robbery in Hagerstown under investigation



The Hagerstown Police Department is investigating a strong-arm robbery that was reported Tuesday about 5 p.m. at Nottingham Road and Washington Avenue.

A woman's face was cut in the incident, police said.




McConnellsburg man charged with aggravated assault



McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - A McConnellsburg man who police allege held a handgun to a juvenile's head was charged with aggravated assault Saturday, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

Jonathan E. Berkstresser, 26, was charged with one count of aggravated assault in connection with a domestic disturbance Saturday about 1:30 a.m.

Berkstresser was arraigned and bail was set at $25,000. Berkstresser was being held Tuesday night at Franklin County Prison.




Power saws, soda stolen from truck at Chambersburg Mall



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Two power saws and three 12-packs of soda were stolen Monday from a truck parked in the Chambersburg Mall parking lot, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

While the driver was in the mall between 5:30 and 6 p.m., someone opened the door and took the items, police said. The saws were TS 400 Stihl saws, police said.

Truck window shot in Chambersburg



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A pickup truck window apparently was shot Monday, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

The 1999 GMC Sierra was parked in a driveway in the 4400 block of Sycamore Grove Road in Chambersburg, police said.

A rear window was damaged, apparently by a gunshot, between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., police said.




Two charged with retail theft at Chambersburg Wal-Mart



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Two men were charged with retail theft after one of them was found taking a television set out of Wal-Mart on Saturday, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Police said Preston John Holton, age and address unavailable, of Chambersburg, purchased a $798 television and took it out to his vehicle at about 4:10 p.m. A few minutes later, police said, he gave the receipt to Rahim Shariyf Cary, age and address unavailable, of Greencastle, Pa.

Cary then grabbed a cart containing a $948 television set and tried to leave the store without paying, but was stopped by store security, police said.




Log splitter stolen in Chambersburg



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police were investigating the theft of a log splitter Saturday from Tractor Supply, 1733 Lincoln Way East.

Police said the splitter was stolen between 12:30 and 10 a.m. A cable securing the splitter outside the store was cut, police said.
