Grant funds target tobacco use

FREDERICK, Md. - The Cigarette Restitution Fund Program announces a second round of funding for tobacco use prevention education programs or for cessation services.

Grants will be awarded for programs that address tobacco use in Frederick County adults and youth. Preference will be given to programs targeting African-American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino and American Indian populations, pregnant women and the medically underserved.

Profit and nonprofit organizations are invited to apply. Churches, civic organizations and businesses are encouraged to submit proposals. Applications may be submitted for either community outreach, educational programs or cessation services.

To assist interested applicants, a grant-writing workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Frederick County Health Department, 350 Montevue Lane, Room 2-139. Registration is required. Call 301-600-3390.

The Frederick County Health Department's Substance Abuse Division Prevention Services implements the local CRF Fund. Funds are made available through the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Center for Health Promotion, Cigarette Restitution Fund Program.
