Mont Alto Fire Co. receives federal funds

December 19, 2007

MONT ALTO, Pa. - U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster said Monday that the Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 has been awarded an Assistance to Fire Fighters Grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 will use the $91,913 federal grant to purchase new fully interoperable portable radios and pagers for its firefighters.

"Currently, the Franklin County PA Department of Emergency Services is upgrading their public safety radio system in 2008 to a new frequency spectrum," said Bryan Stevenson, assistant chief and grants manager for the fire department.

"These portable and mobile radios will allow us to be interoperable and compatible, effectively communicating with the new system immediately," he said.
