December 18, 2007|By JANET HEIM

Merrill Lynch held an open house in honor of the grand opening of its Hagerstown office on Thursday. The ribbon cutting was attended by state Sen. Donald F. Munson, RWashington, and John F. Barr, president of the Washington County Commissioners, as well as Carol Nevins, director of the Metro Maryland Complex for Merrill Lynch.

"We're excited to be here in Washington County. It's important to have a presence and a footprint here," Nevins said.

The office at 19236 Meadow View Drive will serve the comprehensive wealth-management needs of individuals and families in Hagerstown and surrounding communities, according to a press release.

"The new office is a very exciting development for both Merrill Lynch and the community, and demonstrates our commitment to the Hagerstown area," said Suzanne Hayes, associate resident director, assistant vice president, financial adviser, in a press release. "Our goal is to provide superior wealth-management services that can help our clients achieve the life they desire. Creating the office in Hagerstown also helps us to connect to the members of the community as both an employer and local corporate citizen."

Hayes, a 32-year financial industry veteran, will head up the new office. Financial Advisers David Girio, vice president and Dennis Koons, assistant vice president, also will base their practices in the Hagerstown office.

"I think it kind of shows how far we've come as a community to be able to attract Merrill Lynch, how much the community has changed over the last few years," Munson said.

"It's indicative of the business growth in the community, which is the driving force in development. It's very positive for Washington County," Barr said.
