HARRISBURG - The Department of Agriculture has named a York County man to be a new regional director over Franklin County and others in Region 6.
Douglas E. Kilgore, who most recently served as a York County commissioner from 2004 through 2007, will assume his new duties on Jan. 8. In his new role, Kilgore will oversee Region 6, which serves Adams, Dauphin, Cumberland, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties.
A main focus for Kilgore is to advance the department's two key agricultural aims: agricultural education and economic development, in working with government, producers, agribusinesses, organizations, schools and consumers.
Thomas O. Oyler Jr., who has been Region 6 director since 2003, is rejoining the department's Bureau of Farmland Preservation. He will coordinate the Agricultural Lands Condemnation Approval Board and represent the bureau on the Interagency Land Use Committee.
