"I'm a Republican, and when I was born, we had Truman as a president, and after that we had Eisenhower, stability. Then we had Kennedy, the Bay of Pigs. LBJ, he sent me to Vietnam in '66. Then we had Nixon, Watergate. Then we had Ford - he never had a chance. Then we had Mr. Giveaway, Carter - Democrat. Then we had the best since I've been alive in 61 years, Ronald Reagan, and after Ronald Reagan we had Bush. He should have got Saddam Hussein. Then we had the gigolo, and now we got this guy. This guy, he really doesn't know what he's doing." - Williamsport
"Why isn't there a nativity scene in front of the courthouse here in Jefferson County? After all, the courthouse and the grounds belong to the people of Jefferson County, not the officials, and remember, that is our rights under the Constitution." - Jefferson County, W.Va.
"After reading that article in The Herald-Mail about the guy with his Allegheny Power bill, I would like The Herald-Mail to do a survey to find out exactly what all those little surcharges are on your Allegheny Power bill, because the average person can't figure out what it's supposed to mean. We just pay our bills, and really don't know exactly what it means. If someone could find out exactly what all those little surcharges meant, that would be a great service to everyone." - Williamsport
"The Democratic Congress can hardly contain itself in its eagerness to investigate the use of steroids by some major league baseball players, yet they cannot find the time nor the will to pass a national defense budget to support our troops fighting terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan, and in many other places around the world. I fear for my country if Democrats gain more power in the Congress and the White House in the next election." - Smithsburg
"This is a wonderful memory from the past. In the mid-'40s, with hundreds of crowded shoppers on the streets surrounding the square, George Updegraff sang Christmas carols from next to the clock in front of R. Bruce Carson's jewelry store every afternoon, a couple of weeks before Christmas. With his great voice, he added to the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season." - Hagerstown
"To the person or persons that put in 'Thumbs up' or 'Thumbs down' about the Antietam Moose party: The Herald-Mail only writes mostly negative things that happen. Antietam Moose gave hospice and breast cancer money. They gave bikes for kids, just to name a few, but the newspaper said that was not newsworthy to put in the paper. So if the members would show up for the meetings the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 and participate in activities, they would know what's going on. But they just want to believe in what they read in something that the newspaper doesn't know."
"For all you Ravens fans out there, I would walk around with bags over my head, losing to Miami. I'd be ashamed of my team." - Hagerstown
"If you have a problem finding something to watch on TV on Tuesday evenings, watch the city council meetings at 6:00 and you will find out how to take the money from someone else and spend it on foolish things. I have never in my life seen a group of people who argue as much as they do, but yet they can agree on taking thousands and thousands of dollars of our tax dollars that we work hard for and have no control over because of them, and spend it on foolish things." - Hagerstown
