Northeast Campground Association members visit Jellystone

WILLIAMSPORT - The Northeast Campground Association made a stop in Washington County as part of its 2007 Great Escape.

Approximately 50 members of the group visited and met at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park as part of an annual conference.

The group enjoyed a lunch of Maryland fried chicken, hosted by Ron and Vicki Vitkun, owners of Williamsport Jellystone Park. Lunch was sponsored by Leisure Systems, the campground's franchisor. After lunch, everyone grabbed a golf cart to tour the campground and newly added water zone features.

"It's a real feeling of pride to be able to show your business off to your peers," said Ron Vitkun. "You could see the 'wow.' There's no question they were impressed."

Vitkun said he and wife Vicki were honored to host lunch for the group.

"It's great to be able to sit and talk with that many of your peers at once. These are people who share the same business concerns we do."

The Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau assisted with the event. Tom Riford, CVB president, addressed the group, and members of the CVB staff helped greet the group members.

The concept of the Northeast Campground Association was born in 1965. It was created to provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas and to explore and implement programs of mutual benefit to state associations and their campgrounds on a regular basis. The association encompasses all 11 Northeast states, which include Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. The Great Escape 2007 took place in the fall.
