Christmas tree damaged in W.Va.

December 16, 2007

INWOOD, W.Va. - Damage to the South Berkeley Community Christmas parade's tree was reported early Saturday and according to the organization's president, the tree won't survive.

Franklin Rutherford said the tree's trunk was sawed at the base, then struck by a vehicle. The lights and wires on the tree also were damaged.

The tree eventually will die and have to be replaced because of the damage, Rutherford said.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident involving the tree, which is on the property of Musselman High School.

There also was damage to the school's lawn because of the vehicle spinning its wheels.

Anyone with information about the incident may call Deputy R.A. Davis at 301-267-7000 or West Virginia Crime Solvers at 304-267-4999.
