CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -Tri-State-area residents can get a taste of an Irish Christmas without a six-hour flight and delays at the airport.

Tony Kenny, a popular performer in Ireland, is bringing a taste of Irish Christmas to the Tri-State area when his Christmas Time in Ireland tour visits The Capitol Theatre this Friday.

The show will feature inspirational, Christmas, and Irish songs, including "Christmas in Killarney," "Come Home to Ireland for Christmas," and "Mrs. Fogarty's Christmas Cake," Kenny said during a recent phone interview.

The show also will include Irish step-dancing and more familiar holiday carols such as "O Holy Night" and "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas."

Kenny, who lives in Dublin, Ireland, has been touring the U.S. for about 20 years, the last 15 with his own show.

"I first came to the U.S. with Jurys (Irish) Cabaret," headlining the show that also was a famous tourist attraction at a Dublin hotel, Kenny said.

Now he tours the U.S. twice a year, in the spring with a St. Patrick's Day tour and with his Christmas show.

His current tour started Nov. 8, which meant he had a chance to experience an American holiday, Thanksgiving, with an Irish family living in Long Island, N.Y.

"I absolutely enjoyed it," he said. "We had a great time with turkey, ham, singing. One or two glasses were raised."

Kenny, who said he was "older than 50," added that he's been in show business since he was 17 years old.

He sang in school and church choirs. In his early 20s, he started doing stage musicals. His stage experience includes lead parts in shows such as "Showboat" and "West Side Story" in Dublin and London.

In addition to his Christmas tour, Kenny is working on a new album. He said he has about 22 albums so far. The new one will feature a lot of Irish songs.

When he goes home to Ireland next week, he'll have 14 more shows and a couple of weeks off before starting all over again arranging his spring tour.

Irish entertainer Tony Kenny is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Capitol Theatre in Chambersburg, Pa.

As of Wednesday, a storm was forecasted with a possible break in the severe weather on Friday.

Any changes about the show will be announced on 95.1 FM and through Main Line Broadcasting and Verstanding Broadcasting radio stations, said Linda Boeckman, operations manager for The Capitol Theatre.

If the show is able to go on, there will be no refunds, Boeckman said. If the show is canceled, accommodations will be made for patrons with tickets.
