Hood's Gutekunst earns honor

Hood College senior Jesse Gutekunst, a South Hagerstown graduate, was named the PrestoSports Pride of Maryland player of the week.

Gutekunst led the Blazers to back-to-back Capital Athletic Conference victories and a share of first place. He recorded a double-double in each game, including 26 points against St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday, in which he made all 12 of his foul shots. He also grabbed 13 rebounds Saturday. Gutekunst had 12 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks against Gallaudet earlier in the week.

For the season, Gutekunst is second on the team in scoring (18.2 per game) and first in rebounding (16.3 per game) and field-goal percentage (.584).


Rams' Warehime honored

Shepherd University junior forward Katie Warehime was named West Virginia Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Warehime averaged 22 points and eight rebounds in three games last week, connecting on 29 of 45 field-goal attempts ( 64.4 percent). Her 24-point efforts versus Cheyney and Seton Hill keyed a pair of Rams victories.



Clement wins 1,000

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former Hagerstown Community College star Tony Clement, competing for Oklahoma University, won the men's 1,000-meter run in 2:28.86 at the Kansas State University All-Comers meet.

Co-ed volleyball tournament

The Chambersburg YMCA will hold its annual mid-winter co-ed volleyball tournaments in January. The 'A' tournament will be Jan. 19 and the 'B' tournament will be Jan. 26. Cost per team is $100.
