Goretti bounces Mercersburg

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Kevin Breslin hit 14 of 19 shots to lead St. Maria Goretti over Mercersburg Academy, 58-48, on Sunday.

Breslin scored 15 points in the third period when Goretti (3-1) outscored the Blue Storm (2-2) 22-13 to pad its 21-16 halftime lead. Breslin's career high 37 points was capped off with another 11 points in the fourth period.

Breslin had a team-high eight rebounds and three steals, John Duhring had six rebounds and five assists and Nic Martin added five rebounds and three assists coming off the bench.


Ajaye Dean led Mercersburg with 13 points. Brett Burrier and Gabe Martin each tallied 11.

Mercersburg 79, St. Stephen's 73

ARLINGTON, Va. - Mercersburg's Brett Burrier poured in 31 points to lead the Blue Storm over St. Stephen's-St. Agnes on Saturday.

Burrier hit nine field goals and 11 of 11 from the free throw line as the Blue Storm rallied from a 44-32 halftime deficit with a 29-point third period.


North has good start

BOWIE, Md. - North Hagerstown opened its season with a second-place finish at the Bowie Duals with a 5-2 record.

Jim Eichelberger (152 pounds), Delon Agee (135) and Dan Mazzei (171) each recorded 7-0 records while Joe Breehl (140) and Jake Turner (145) each had six wins.

The Hubs defeated Broadneck (44-27), Hammond (43-32), Northern Calvert (49-28), Bowie (60-15) and Quince Orchard (38-34) while losing to Westlake (42-36) and South River (48-23).

Reed leads Waynesboro

LANCASTER, Pa. - Jeff Reed led Waynesboro's 11th-place showing in the Solanco Mule Classic with a 4-0 record, including a pin over Jeff Scheckner, of Penncrest, at 4:41 in the third period for the 215-pound title on Saturday.

Waynesboro totaled 99 points. Council Rock North won the Classic with 200 points.

Brandon Beltz went 4-2 in the 140-pound class.
