Frederick County Public School briefs

December 10, 2007

Ten Frederick County public schools hosted motivational "Behind the Faces" assemblies recently to teach students to make positive choices based on inside convictions, not outside influences, according to a school system press release.

The assemblies focused on defining friendship as well as preventing bullying, drunk driving, suicide and substance abuse. Students heard true stories in a film, "Behind the Faces," reminding them that their choices and actions have a profound effect on themselves and those around them.

Attending assemblies were some students at Brunswick, Catoctin, Frederick, Linganore, Middletown, Tuscarora, Urbana and Walkersville high schools; students in grades 6 to 12 at Heather Ridge, and students at Monocacy Middle School.

The Frederick Elks Lodge, Frederick County Highway Safety Task Force and State Farm agents Sherri Cates, Denise Hall-Brown, Danielle Leonard and Tim Winters sponsored the assemblies.
