WILLIAMSPORT - Williamsport's Andrew Duff will be a little closer to his favorite college football team - West Virginia University - when he steps into college life next fall at his soon-to-be favorite golf school - Fairmont University.

Duff signed a letter-of-intent to Fairmont recently and will add his golf talents to a team that has won the last four West Virginia Intercolligiate Athletic Conference titles.

"Coach (Reid Amos) said we won't be practicing on Saturday's because everyone watches West Virginia football," mused Duff, who will enter college with an undeclared major.

Duff visited with Amos, who also doubles as Fairmont's football radio broadcaster.

"(Coach) likes my game, my length and wants me to get out on different, tougher courses," said Duff. "I'll do the junior tournaments in the area in the spring but I'm also hoping to maybe get in some Titleist and AJGA events."

Duff said he liked Fairmont because it is a solid golf school.

He held the top mark among Washington County male golfers this season with a 38.6 stroke average for nine holes.
