what do you think

Editor's note: Each week, The Herald-Mail invites readers to answer poll questions on its Web site, Readers also may submit comments about the poll question when voting. Each Sunday, a sampling of edited reader comments will run in The Herald-Mail.

Last week's poll question was: With the first snow of the season falling in the Tri-State region, what is your opinion of winter?

"Winter is not okay with me; I hate it!"

"I see the police are telling everyone to stay off the roads. You have got to be kidding!! Less that 2 inches of snow and they close schools all over the county and tell people to stay home. That is just great for businesses that count on employees to come in and work. Now they have an excuse. If people would slow down and pay attention and not talk on their cell phones there would be fewer accidents."

"Unfortunately, too many stupid people do not realize that gee if there is snow on the ground .... drive slower! Very difficult concept for a lot of people for some reason."

"I hope global warming takes care of this problem so instead of shoveling snow we would be picking oranges."

"The snow is beautiful, I love to watch it come down (from) inside my home. Shoveling is another issue but must be done within 24 hours of the snowfall, according to the city ordinance. Use your headphone or walkman and enjoy."

"I happen to enjoy the wintertime very much. The smell of wood wafting through the air. The quiet stillness brought on by the layers of snow. Ugly worn-out buildings and trees take on a new and wonderfully mysterious appearance. I especially enjoy following and figuring out the different animals by their prints on the snow-covered ground."

"Once again, schools are closed for no reason. Some day, they will figure out the roads in Hancock are different than in Hagerstown and only close those schools that are really affected by the snow."

"I think the snow is wonderful, me and my family enjoy it. ... And the driving thing is very true, but it's not only in the snow that people drive stupid and cause accidents. It's all the time!! I do agree when it's snowing there are more, but if people would worry about what's in their own car, and stop trying to make it one car ahead it would be a lot safer for everyone."

"Regarding the BOE decision, it is more than just the roads being cleared. There is also the need for parking lots and sidewalks to be cleared at all the schools. And God forbid, if there was an incident, the price to pay would be awful."
