Waynesboro enacts $52 services tax

December 06, 2007|By JENNIFER FITCH

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Most people working in the Borough of Waynesboro will be subject to a $52 local services tax in 2008.

The borough council opted to enact the tax on Nov. 28.

Employees earning less than $12,000 annually are exempt from the tax as are members of reserve components of the Armed Forces.

The tax will be collected by employers each payroll.

Revenue from the tax - which was formerly called the emergency services tax - can be used for police, fire and medical services; road construction and maintenance; and reduction of property taxes.
