Washington County Commissioners meet in Boonsboro

December 05, 2007|By JOSHUA BOWMAN

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday held a night meeting in Boonsboro.

The town's mayor and council and about 20 residents attended the meeting, which was part of an ongoing effort by the county commissioners to meet in the county's municipalities.

Several town council members said the town needs more public recreational facilities. Some council members said fields at the educational complex are not available on Saturdays, when many public leagues play. They also said Boonsboro is a hub for South County and demand for recreational facilities likely will increase when the housing market recovers.

Members of a citizens group working to restart a recycling program in Boonsboro also attended Tuesday's meeting.

Janeen Solberg said the group is working to get a recycling bin back in town, which stopped offering the service because people were dumping trash in the bin.

Solberg said the group is distributing a door-to-door survey to find out what kind of recycling services residents would like to see.
