On Wednesday, Oct. 24, the Cavetown Homemakers Club of Smithsburg celebrated its 90th anniversary with a luncheon at Trinity Lutheran Church. Guests included Helen Clark, president of the Washington County Homemakers, along with most of her executive board, presidents of most of the local clubs, and Smithsburg Mayor Mickey Myers.
Mayor Myers gave the club a certificate from the town for "outstanding community service."
The club presented a skit explaining the customs and practices of the early days when hats and gloves were worn to every meeting. In the past, meetings were held in members' homes.
Longtime member Margaret Schlimme was recognized and given a flower for her 95th birthday.
Helen Clark gave the club a poster with the club's title, as well as a monetary prize.
