Hagerstown BPW celebrates Women's Week

The Hagerstown Business and Professional Women's Club celebrated National Business Women's Week at the club's recent dinner meeting.

Martin Brubaker, City of Hagerstown council member, and John Barr, Washington County Commissioners president, presented proclamations supporting National Business Women's Week. Both government representatives gave updates on current issues in city and county government. They also recognized the many women holding government positions in local government.

The keynote speaker was Sharon Leatherman, 2007 BPW Woman of the Year, and member of the Home Rule Charter board, Washington County. A copy of the proposed home rule charter was presented to each attendee. A question and answer period followed the presentation.

Other guests were Monda Sagalkin of the League of Women Voters, and Linda Smith of NOW. BPW celebrated national Business Women's Week with informative TV 25 telecasts by Hagerstown BPW public relations chair Rosalie Ridenour and membership chair Donna Smith. Members of the local organization also attended church, followed by a lunch at the Elks Club.

The objectives of NBWW are to promote full participation and equity for women in the workplace; to publicize the achievements of business and professional women on the local, state and national level; and to publicize the objectives and programs of BPW/USA as they relate to the millions of business and professional women across the country.

NBWW originated through BPW/USA in 1928.
