Nature Niche's window wonderland wins contest

December 02, 2007|By TRISH RUDDER

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Nature Niche, a shop on Washington Street, won first place for the best window and door decorations this year in the Travel Berkeley Springs contest. The Best of Christmas was the decorating theme.

Shop owner Judy Webb said this was the first year the business entered the contest. The window was designed by assistant manager Desiree Adams. "The Best of Christmas is a woodland effect," Adams said.

The tree is decorated with outdoor wildlife figures and snowballs, and is surrounded by hanging snowflakes.

Travel Berkeley Springs judged the window and door displays Friday night and gave ribbons to the winners. Perry Realty won second place, and Homeopathy Works and RE/MAX Realty tied for third place.

Jeanne Mozier, Travel Berkeley Springs board member and one of the contest judges, said the group is thinking about doing away with a Christmas decorating theme next year. She said many stores decorate their windows, and the town looks more festive now than in years past when the contest was created to encourage decorating.
