Phone charger might be cause of fire

December 01, 2007

INWOOD, W.Va. - A cell phone charger is being looked at as the cause of a Friday evening fire that destroyed a mobile home in the Harranda Court Mobile Home Park, said South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Co. Capt. P.J. Burroughs.

The fire at 43 Bambi Court was called in at about 6:50 p.m. and flames were starting to come out of the windows when firefighters arrived, Burroughs said. Firefighters were able to get inside and put the fire out, but he said the damage was enough to make the structure a total loss.

The resident was out of town and efforts were being made to get in touch with her, Burroughs said.

A fire investigator was called in to determine the cause, Burroughs said.

"He believes it was a phone charger left on a table" in the living room, Burroughs said.

A dozen firefighters from South Berkeley and two from the Back Creek Volunteer Fire Co. responded to the fire, he said.
