MERCERSBURG, Pa. ? A 23-year-old Mercersburg man was killed and the driver and occupants of another vehicle were injured Saturday afternoon in a head-on collision in the 8900 block of Buchanan Trail West in Montgomery Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Daniel J. Martin Jr., 23, address unavailable, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:35 p.m. accident, Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said. Martin, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, died of blunt force multiple trauma, Conner said.

There will be no autopsy, Conner said.

Martin was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta west about one mile west of Heisey Road between Mercersburg and Upton, Pa., when the car crossed into the westbound lane, police said. The left front of his car struck the left front of a 2007 Acura RDX, police said.

Martin's car spun around and stopped in the westbound lane, police said. The Acura spun around and hit a guardrail, police said.

Conner said the accident happened on a straight and flat stretch of road.

The driver and other occupants of the Acura were flown to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center and Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, police said. Two helicopters were called in to transport the injured, a county 911 dispatcher said.

Police had not released the names of the people in the Acura as of Saturday night pending verification of their identities.

Buchanan Trail West was blocked for about four hours while emergency crews and investigators cleared the scene, the dispatcher said.
