WASHINGTON COUNTY - Another four-year term on the Washington County Board of Education would give Russell F. Williams the chance to continue advocating on behalf of poor and minority students, he said.
"I try to make sure that poor students are not being priced out of education," he said.
Williams, 64, who lives in Hagerstown, served on the board from 2002 to 2006, but he lost in the primary election last year. His name will appear on the ballot again in 2008. He filed last week to run in the Board of Education election.
The seats of four incumbents - Donna Brightman, Roxanne R. Ober, Wayne D. Ridenour and Bernadette M. Wagner - are on the ballot, but none of them has filed to run.
Williams and Sharpsburg resident Meredith Fouche are the only candidates to have filed.
If there are at least nine candidates, a primary election will be held Feb. 12, 2008. If not, all of the candidates who have filed will appear on the ballot during the Nov. 4, 2008 general election.
