Area roundup: HCC tops Howard

COLUMBIA, Md. - Q'Monte Matheny scored a game-high 19 points and Travis May added 15 points to lead Hagerstown Community College to a 78-66 win over Howard on Wednesday.

Kelvin Bright scored 11 points and John Long had 14 rebounds and three blocks for the Hawks (7-1).

Donta Ridley and Andre Cooper each had 16 points, while Ron Mann added 12 points for the Dragons.

Shepherd 86, Lock Haven 63

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd used a balanced attack with all five starters scoring in double digits to defeat Lock Haven.

The Rams (3-1) were led by Liki Turner's 17-point, 11-rebound effort and Fred Lymas' 17 points. Also contributing for the Rams were Ian Grady and Justin Jarman with 13 points apiece and Derek Gallagher with 10.

Billy Arre had 16 points for Lock Haven (0-4).


Five Shepherd players named to all-region teams

Shepherd senior running back Dervon Wallace and senior offensive linemen Bubba Brady and Ryan Pope were named to the 2007 All-Northeast Region first team.


Shepherd junior defensive lineman Mike Spiegelberg and senior linebacker Jerome Quinata were named to the second team.


Broadfording 84, Front Royal 50

FRONT ROYAL, Va. - Armondo Miller led all scorers with 24 points and added seven rebounds as Broadfording Christian Academy defeated Front Royal (2-2).

Devin Gourdine had 16 points, Anthony Borum had six points and 13 rebounds and Gabe Hirsch added 10 points and seven assists for the Lions (2-1).

Mercersburg 65, Heights 40

POTOMAC, Md. - Brett Burrier scored a game-high 32 points as Mercersburg Academy defeated Heights School.

Ben Eaton and A.J. Dean had 11 points each for the Blue Storm.
