Britney, better than expected

CD review: "Blackout"

CD review: "Blackout"

With song titles like "Get Naked" and "Ooh Ooh Baby," it seems a little like Britney Spears' new CD is made to be totally lusty.

Guess what? Ding-ding-ding, we have a winner!

The new CD, "Blackout," might be totally oversexed, but to its credit, the songs are surprisingly catchy, even for someone who despises pop and dance tunes the way I do. Even though "Gimme More" might currently be the most made-fun-of song on the planet, songs like "Radar" and "Toy Soldier" will soon be played at every club due to their carefree promiscuity. Britney has - along with no child custody, traffic issues and a pair of bad marriages - the ability to sing, and she displays her trademark sultry vocals on all the tracks.

I predict the hip-hop-tinged "Break The Ice" will be the next single. Like "Gimme More," there is Britney dialogue that might have come out of a dirty movie spaced throughout the danceable pop tune, perfect for today's hip-hop/pop scene.

Britney's hardly a musical Da Vinci, and it's still beyond me why she needs two songs on her CD that have the word "ice" in the title.

But, all in all, her fans, however many might be left, will find "Blackout" a better-than-expected CD that's just really obsessed with doing the deed.
