Suspect in Hagerstown knife attack still at large

A Martinsburg, W.Va., man was stabbed several times Nov. 16 at a Hagerstown motel and police are still looking for his attacker.

Washington County Sheriff's deputies described the attacker as a white man, 30 years old, with a slim build. The man was about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with collar-length brown hair.

At the time of the attack, the man was not wearing glasses or a hat, and he was last seen wearing a white shirt and no jacket, police said.

The stabbing took place about 3:15 a.m. at Motel 6 on Massey Boulevard in Hagerstown, police said. The victim, David Wayne Cook, 52, was stabbed during an attempted robbery, police said.

Cook was going into his motel room when a man tried to rob him, police said. Cook was stabbed in his upper body and taken to Washington County Hospital for treatment.

He was released from the hospital Nov. 21 after an operation.

The investigation was continuing, and police said they need the public's help to find Cook's attacker.
