Tele-Plus Corp.

Jason Ellis has been appointed manager of Information Technology Services for Tele-Plus Corp., which has its headquarters in Hagerstown.

Ellis, of Mercersburg, Pa., will be responsible for overseeing the IT technical services provided by the company to its telecommunication, life safety and property protection customers in the four-state area.

He graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1989 and has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from West Virginia University. He also has a master's of business administration degree from the University of South Carolina.

Apparatus Repair & Engineering

Kevin J. Miller, vice president and co-owner of Apparatus Repair & Engineering Inc. in Hagerstown, has been elected vice chairman of the Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA).


Miller was installed at the association's annual international convention in June in Minneapolis. He has served on EASA's international board of directors for six years. He previously was a chapter officer and president for EASA's mid-Atlantic chapter.

Tourism Council of Frederick County

Randy McClement took on the role of president of the board of directors of The Tourism Council of Frederick County on Nov. 9.

McClement, owner of The Market Bagel & Deli in downtown Frederick, replaced Michael Henningsen, whose term as president recently expired.

Henningsen passed the gavel to McClement at the Tourism Council's annual membership meeting in October.

McClement has served on the council's Executive Committee, most recently as first vice president, and has chaired both the Nominating and TRIPP Program committees. He was founding chairman of the Tourism Reinvestment in Promotion and Product (TRIPP) Program.

Hersh Business Services

Kimberly Foltz recently was accepted into the co-op training program at Hersh Business Services of Martinsburg, W.Va.

Foltz is a junior at Shepherd University, where she is pursuing a double major in accounting and business administration.

She graduated from Martinsburg High School in 2005.

The HBS co-op program is open to select freshman and sophomore students who are accounting majors at area colleges and universities. The program consists of a supervised, two-year hands-on program that is designed to provide real-world application of classroom topics.

The expectation is that trainees will have obtained the skills to enter HBS management or to begin their accounting careers when they graduate.

Bowers Insurance

John Bowers, president of Bowers Insurance of Hagerstown, recently earned the Certified WorkComp Advisor designation, conferred by the Institute of WorkComp Professionals.

The Asheville, N.C.-based organization trains insurance professionals to locate costly errors in workers compensation coverage.

Approximately 300 insurance agencies have staff members who have qualified for the Certified WorkComp Advisor designation.

· Also, Jeff Bowers of Bowers Insurance and Sii Investments has completed two days of intense IRA distribution training with Ed Slott, an IRA distribution expert and author.

Slott's training focuses on educating advisers on how to save their clients large sums of money and avoid costly mistakes that would result in huge tax payments.

Ed H. Lough

Local resident Ed H. Lough, LUTCF, CLTC, was selected to attend this year's Northwestern Mutual Forum, held Nov. 11-14 at The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Lough, a financial representative with the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, is based in Hagerstown. He was invited to the forum in recognition of his outstanding year of performance. Lough joins a group of representatives from across the country who have qualified for the honor. Lough is a representative based in Hagerstown.

The Northwestern Mutual Forum is an education and development symposium that focuses on industry issues and ways to enhance productivity for top producing financial representatives. Of the company's nearly 7,700 representatives, 314 were eligible to attend this annual event.

Callas Contractors

Susan L. Leonard, RN

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Susan L. Leonard, RN, BSN, CLNC, of Martinsburg, has been awarded the Certified Forensic Nurse, or CFN, designation by the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute.

She is a 1993 graduate of North Hagerstown High School and a 1995 graduate of the U.S. Army School of Practical Nursing. She graduated in 1999 from Hagerstown Community College and in 2002 from Shepherd University.

She is a captain in the 167th West Virginia Air National Guard and is employed with West Virginia University Hospital East in the emergency room.

She is a member of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Team and is clinical forensic nurse examiner for City Hospital.

She has a certification as a legal nurse consultant and owns a consulting business, The Sword of Justice and Associates.
