Paving issue

Q. "As we drive around the streets of Hagerstown, we see a lot of paving going on. Since we live in the North End and use Jonathan Street, we were wondering why Jonathan Street has not been touched when it needs to be paved so badly. Could someone in the city council or in the city government tell me why Jonathan Street has not been touched?" - Hagerstown

A. The Hagerstown City Council is considering a $4.5 million proposal to improve Jonathan Street with utilities and a new surface, among other things. Assistant City Engineer Jim Bender said the city is preparing an improvement plan and should be ready to solicit bids for the project by the end of this year. If the council approves, construction could begin in the spring.
