November 23, 2007

INWOOD, W.Va. - U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito on Wednesday announced that the South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Department in Berkeley County was awarded $44,645 by the Department of Homeland Security.

"The South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Department is an important resource for the residents of Inwood and southern Berkeley County," Capito, R-W.Va., said in a news release. "This grant will help ensure that local volunteers have the resources they need to help their neighbors and do their job."

The award through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is generally given to enhance the preparedness capabilities of local fire departments and emergency medical service organizations, including equipment upgrades and training for first responders, according to Capito's office.
