Compost bedded pack barns topic of meeting in Pa. Dec. 7

Some dairy producers have expressed interest in learning more about the management involved with compost bedded pack barns for lactating dairy cows.

This housing system has been utilized by numerous dairy producers in Virginia over the past five to eight years.

An informational meeting, sponsored by Penn State Cooperative Extension, Franklin County, will be held Dec. 7, at the extension office in Chambersburg to provide information about the Virginia experience with compost bedded pack barns.

The speaker will be John Welsh, Extension educator, Virginia Cooperative Extension. Meeting time is 10 a.m. to noon in the basement of the Extension office. The address is 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, Pa.

The cost of the program is $5 per person payable that day. Preregistration by Dec. 5 is recommended in order to determine the room size needed.
