Frederick Symphony Orchestra holds piano competition

FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick Symphony Orchestra announces its 2008 Young Artist Piano Competition. The competition is open to advanced middle and high school pianists who live in Maryland. The grand-prize winner will be awarded a solo performance with the FSO at the 2008 Young Artist Showcase Concert being held Saturday, March 8, as well as a cash prize of $500. The second-place winner will be awarded a $200 cash prize, and the remaining three finalists will receive an award of $50 each.

The preliminary round of the competition will take place Saturday, Jan. 12, from which five finalists will be selected. Audition times will be determined after all applications are received. The final round and winner's circle recital will be on Saturday, Jan. 26.

All entrants must submit a completed entry form and a non-refundable fee of $35 by Saturday, Dec. 22. The entry form and complete rules including repertoire requirements can be obtained by visiting the FSO's Web site at www.fredericksymphony.org or by calling 301-663-8476.
