Man dies after deputy uses a Taser on him in Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says a man died after a deputy used a Taser to break up a fight.

It happened around 5 a.m. Sunday in the 7000 block of Gresham Court East in Frederick.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Corporal Jennifer Bailey says the first deputy on the scene found four people fighting. When the deputy deployed the Taser, Bailey says the 20-year-old man fell on the ground unconscious.

The man, a identified by a relative as Jarrel Gray, was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Bailey says the Frederick Police Department is helping the Sheriff's Office with the investigation. The deputy, whose name was not released, has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
