A Martinsburg, W.Va., man was stabbed several times this morning at the Motel 6 on Massey Boulevard, Sgt. Roy Harsh of the Washington County Sheriff's Department told The Herald-Mail.

David Wayne Cook, 52, was listed as a patient Friday morning in the emergency room at Washington County Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Cook's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Harsh said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the stabbing, Harsh said.

The sheriff's department was called at 3:13 a.m.

Officers found Cook in the lobby of the motel.

Cook had rented a room and was going into his room when a man approached him, Harsh said. The man then attempted to rob Cook and stabbed him several times, Harsh said.

Deputies described the assailant as a white man with a thin build, between the ages of 30 and 35.
