November 16, 2007|By HEATHER KEELS

A masked man robbed a Hagerstown check-cashing business at gunpoint Thursday evening, Hagerstown Police said.

An employee at Hagerstown Laundromat and Check Cashing at 521 W. Washington St. left the office briefly and returned about 6:30 p.m. to find a man hiding in the office, Sgt. Jim Hurd said.

The man pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the employee and told the employee to open the cash drawer, Hurd said. The man reached inside and removed money, ordered the employee to go into another room and close the door, and fled.

The robber was described as a white man, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, wearing a black ski mask, a black hooded jacket with the hood up, black jeans and white sneakers, Hurd said.
