November 06, 2007|By LARRY YANOS

BOONSBORO - Boonsboro rolled past Allegany 25-5, 25-15, 25-18 Monday night in the Maryland Class 1A West volleyball quarterfinals.

The Warriors (10-4) will play the winner of Monday's Poolesville-Mountain Ridge winner in the region semifinals on Wednesday.

Senior Tara Garver led the Warriors' sweep with eight aces and nine assists, while teammate Alison Griffith added nine kills and Emma Dalton and Katie Gantz had five kills each.

"I was satisfied with the first match, but overall, I think we got away from the fundamentals in the next two matches. We'll definitely have to play better on Wednesday," Boonsboro coach Andrea Parry said. "We played more combinations than we normally would do and it wasn't a fast-paced game. Maybe they were factors."

Allegany (3-12) jumped to a 2-0 advantage in the first game, but Boonsboro took command, scoring 13 straight points en route to the win.

The second and third matches were a bit more even, but the Warriors leaped from a 9-8 lead to a 25-15 cushion at the conclusion of play in the second game and used a seven-point flurry in the third game to pull away.

"We picked a bad night to play so poorly," Allegany coach Lacey Smith said. "We're a lot better team than we showed tonight."
