Commissioners OK court annex roofing contract

November 06, 2007|By JOSHUA BOWMAN

The county commissioners voted 4-1 Tuesday to approve a $246,000 contract to replace the roof on the circuit court annex building.

The contract was awarded to the low bidder, Kline Associated Roofing and Siding, Inc. of Hagerstown.

Public Works Director Joseph Kroboth said the courthouse roof leaks every time it rains.

Kroboth said the replacement was added to the capital improvements budget but has been postponed because of delays in the courthouse renovation project.

He said the roof should be replaced before winter.

Commissioner William J. Wivell voted against the contract. He argued that a stipulation to perform all work after business hours, which Kroboth said will prevent interruption to trials, is an unneccesary cost.

He said some of the work could be done during the day.
