Direct deposit glitch affects public schools employees

Washington County Public Schools employees were affected Friday by a direct deposit payroll issue.

Staff members in the WCPS accounting department took action to remedy the problem, contacting M&T Bank, where payroll is posted, and notifying affected employees. M&T officials indicated that the accounts of WCPS employees at the bank would be corrected before the end of the business day, and that M&T was coordinating with other banks to have all affected employees' accounts posted Friday or as soon as possible Monday.

"Every reasonable measure is being taken to support employees who are adversely affected by this problem," Chief Financial Officer Chris South said. "I sincerely apologize for the impact this is having on individual WCPS employees."

Accounting department staff members will be available all weekend to assist employees who are experiencing hardships because of the problem.
