Youth ballet company hosts Nutcracker gala, auction in Hagerstown

The Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Company will host the third annual Nutcracker Gala and Benefit Auction on Sunday, Nov. 11, at Cortland Mansion in Hagerstown. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

The gala is a fundraising event to enhance the performance and educational activities of this nonprofit, pre-professional company.

The evening will include an assortment of food items courtesy of Liz Hopkinson and Palate Pleasers, raffles, a silent auction and a live auction. A short performance by the ballet company will round out the event.

Items donated for the auction include:

· One-week stay at the Carolina Winds resort in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

· Tickets to Gaelic Storm at The Maryland Theatre

· A necklace from R. Bruce Carson Jewelers

· Gift certificates from area restaurants

· Portraits packages from local photographers

· Snowboard package from Bikle's Ski Shop

· An autographed James Taylor guitar

· Stay at Bedford Resort and Spa

· Hagerstown Suns season tickets

· An autographed book by Paula Deen

· A set of Yamaha speakers from Hunt Audio

· Golfer's package

· Children's clothing compliments of Toni Rinehart Sullivan Inc.

· Preparation of federal and state income tax returns.

· Framed Dancer Degas Artwork

· One-night stay at Savage River Lodge

· Tickets to a University of Maryland basketball game

· Many gift baskets, gift certificates for dinners out, merchandise, and services suitable for adult and children with a variety of interests.

The list already numbers more than 100 items, according to chairperson Robin Thomas. Cash, checks, and VISA, MasterCard, and Discover will be accepted.

PCYBC will present its annual Nutcracker production at The Maryland Theatre on Saturday Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. Special guests from the James Sewell Ballet will be a part of the production. Tickets are available at the Maryland Theatre Box Office.
