Boonsboro Orthodox mission marks 5th anniversary

November 02, 2007

BOONSBORO - On Sunday, Oct. 14, Saint Philothea of Argesh Romanian Orthodox Mission marked its fifth anniversary with a grand celebration.

The day began with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy by His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel of Detroit, along with Father Dan Mehedincu and guest celebrant Rev. Dennis Buck of St. Catherine Eastern Orthodox Church in Hagerstown.

At the conclusion of the liturgy, a memorial service was held outdoors to commemorate all the military men and women who have fallen in service of their country.

The day's celebrations continued with a full service luncheon, which featured an array of traditional Romanian delicacies, soups and meats. An extra special treat was the entertainment, an authentic dance troupe which came all the way from Romania. "The lively music and songs, along with the energetic dancers in their colorful costumes were a feast for everyone's eyes and ears, said Sevan Birky. "It was a splendid and fitting celebration for the occasion."
