Franklin Art Alliance hosts bus trip



On Sunday, Dec. 2, the Franklin County Art Alliance will host a bus trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

The bus will leave Weis Market, 1954 Wayne Ave. in Chambersburg, Pa., at 8:15 a.m. and return at approximately 7 p.m.

The cost is $45 and space is limited - call Connie Keele at 717-263-7026 to reserve a seat.

Special exhibitions on view during the trip include the works of Edward Hopper, an artist who produced masterpieces of modern American art, and J.M.W. Turner, one of the greatest landscape painters in the history of art.

Ticket price of $45 includes bus fare and driver gratuity; no charge for museum entry. Lunch is on your own, with restaurants available at the museum and other places.

Concert draws contribution



SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Alexander Fleming of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., director of Kinexum Corp., former president of the Friends of Music at Shepherd University, recently presented a check for $2,500 to Rob Northrup, current Friends president, in support of the second concert of the Guest Artist Series at Shepherd University Department of Music, a string quartet presentation by the Hugo Wolf Quartett.

Fleming said after the concert that he was particularly pleased to support this quartet, "because they were so outstanding as players, making music from previous centuries become music of today's excitement and dynamism."

The Hugo Wolf Quartett performed at the Frank Center Theater on the Shepherd University campus Oct. 18.

The Friends of Music is a nonprofit organization that supports musical excellence at Shepherd University and is dedicated to offering the finest musical performances and educational opportunities in the region.

Calling all Trekkies



"Star Trek: The Original Series" will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, and 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at nearly 300 participating AMC, Cinemark, Georgia Theatre Company and Regal Entertainment Group movie theaters across the country.

Locally Valley Mall 16, 17301 Valley Mall Road, Hagerstown, will show the original Season One episodes "The Menagerie" Part 1 and 2, in their original TV format and digitally remastered in high-definition and cinema surround sound.

Sight and Sound bus trip set



Jefferson County Parks & Recreation Commission has scheduled a bus trip to Sight and Sound Theatre in Strasburg, Pa., on Saturday, Dec. 15, to see "Miracles of Christmas."

The bus will stop at Rockvale Outlets, where visitors can shop, eat or hang out.

The bus will then depart for a 7:30 p.m. show.

The trip is program No. 295.

The cost is $100.

The bus will depart at 8 a.m.; the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
